When the 2024 New Zealand awards were announced earlier this month the 2024 NZ 4yo Trotting Horse/Gelding of the Year was announced as Bet N Win.
It was a expected honour as the gelded son of What The Hill was only defeated once during the season. His five New Zealand wins included the Group Three Canterbury Park Cup and Group Three Ashburton Trotters Sprint.
Bet N Win’s seven starts in 2024 yielded six wins and $124,156 in stakes with his only defeat coming at the end of a long campaign when he finished unplaced in the $400,000 Group One Dominion Handicap won by the awesome Aussie Just Believe.
His driver Bob Butt incurred the steward’s wrath post-race for having moved Bet N Win inwards and locking wheels with another runner and breaking.
Bet N Win made a flying visit to Australia during the 2024 season and won the Listed Stellar Square at Albion Park covering the 2138 metres at a 1:56.3 rate.
There are two yearlings by What The Hill being offered at the Nutrien Sydney Yearling Sale on March 9 and Lot 110 is a full-brother to the smart mare Salski which took a record of tr,1:59.3 as a 3yo and then won the Vicbred Super Series Silver as a 4yo on her way to seven wins and $51,410 in stakes.
Donski, the dam of Lot 110, won a heat of the Vicbred Super Series as a 2yo and she is also the dam of Zarski which won three times as a 2yo in 2024 including victory in a heat of the Vicbred Super Series before finishing third in the $100,000 final won by Commodus.
Donski is a daughter of the multiple Group One winner Skye Rocket which won a Victorian Trotters Oaks and a heat and final of the 4yo Vicbred Super Series on her way to career earnings of $118,885.
