When the 2yo colt Kyvalley Ray won the opening event on the programme at Maryborough on Wednesday he provided his French bred sire Bold Eagle with his first Southern Hemisphere winner.
Although the sire of a current 6yo in Australia Bold Eagle’s first proper downunder crop has eight current 2yos gracing the tracks and Kyvalley Ray showed good speed rating an impressive 2:01.6 for the 1690 metres and winning by seven metres for trainer Brett Lilley and driver Chris Alford.
Bold Eagle was a superstar in Europe winning 46 of his 76 starts and some $7,560,586 in stakes.
He trotted the first 1:50 mile in Europe and won 22 times at Group One level.
Bold Eagle’s first progeny in Europe were born in 2016, while he was still racing, and he is now the sire of 1057 foals of racing age with 553 starters and some 413 winners with 66 of them each earning $100,000 or more.
Next week’s Nutrien Melbourne Yearling Sale features three yearlings by Bold Eagle in Lots 279, 305 and 307.
Lot 279 is potentially the highlight of the trotting bred yearlings on offer on Sunday week being a colt and the first foal of the Group One winning 3yo Perfect Polly.
Perfect Polly was unbeaten on the racetrack winning both her heat and final of the Vicbred Platinum Home Grown Classic.
In addition Perfect Polly is a three-quarter sister to the dam of the unbeaten superstar filly Keayang Zahara.

Lot 305 is another Bold Eagle colt and another first foal and is being offered by Michael Azzopardi.
Starlet Hill is the dam of Lot 305 and she is an unraced half-sister to 12 winners including the New Zealand 2yo Colt/Gelding Trotter of the Year Enghien who also won the 3yo Trotter of the Year title and finished with 16 wins and $407,424 in stakes.
Enghien is by Love You as is the dam of Bold Eagle.

Lot 307 is being offered by Aldebaran Lodge and it is the only Bold Eagle filly in the Melbourne sale catalogue.
Lot 307 is the second foal from the Muscle Hill mare Aldebaran Shakira which is an unraced half-sister to a couple of multiple Group One winners in Maori Time and Maori Law.
Maori Time won 24 races and $421,700 including two wins in the Group One Bill Collins Trotters Mile while Maori Law won 21 races and $361,654 including the 2021 Inter Dominion Final and Australasian Trotting Championship.
