While most updates to catalogue pages relate to performances of the horses listed there are other updates that are equally, if not more, important.
For example Lots 40 and 140 in the Nutrien Sydney Yearling Sale are being offered by Victoria’s Llowalong Farms and just this week the eligibility of these two lots for the rich New Zealand Sires Stakes was added to the respective pages.
There is no need to visit Karaka or Christchurch to look for a New Zealand Sires Stakes eligible horse and the addition of Lots 40 and 140 takes the number of NZ Sires Stakes eligible yearlings across the Nutrien Sunshine Stars, Sydney and Melbourne Sales to around 40 yearlings.
For those who may be sceptical about the chances of taking an Australian bred yearling to New Zealand for their Sires Stakes look no further than We Walk By Faith.
Now a 4yo We Walk By Faith was sold for $70,000 at the 2022 Nutrien Sydney Nutrien Yearling Sale and he finished second in both the 2yo New Zealand Sires Stakes Final and the 3yo New Zealand Sires Stakes Final.
He won the 2024 New Zealand Derby and a heat of the NSW Derby and is now listed as a contender for the 2024 New Zealand 3yo Colt or Gelding of the Year Award which will be presented at a black-tie function in Christchurch on 8th February.
Also in contention for an award, in the 4yo Trotting Mare category is the Australian bred Love You mare Belle Neige which was catalogued at the 2021 Nutrien Melbourne Yearling Sale but failed to reach her reserve.
Any New Zealand award winners will be included in the relevant on-line updates and on the stable doors on sale day and if your interest is piqued early on – dont forget to check online for eligibility and pedigree updates closer to the sale.
