The Waikato Bay of Plenty Christmas Eve meeting at Cambridge in New Zealand provided an interesting new winner of the 2yo race on the programme.
Trained by Mark and Nathan Purdon and driven by Andre Poutama for Australian owners Danny Zavitsanos and Dom Martello, the Captaintreacherous gelding Crippa Max, having just his second start in a race, was a narrow but impressive winner over Life Less Ordinary and B Envious rating 1:56.2 over the 1700 metres.
Despite showing signs of his inexperience, Crippa Max sprinted home in 56.9 seconds with a final quarter in 27.6 seconds.
Lot 109 in the 2026 Nutrien Sydney Yearling Sale has an interesting pedigree in that he is a full brother in blood to Crippa Max being by Captaintreacherous from a full sister to the dam of Crippa Max.
Crippa Max is out of the 2017 New Zealand 2yo Filly Pacer of the Year Elle Mac which retired as a winner of 12 races and $607,678.
Vendors Chlomax Pty Ltd will offer Lot 109 out of the unraced Bettors Delight mare Moet Girl.
It is the mares second foal and her first foal is a 2026 2YO.
There are 13 $100,000 earners bred on the cross of Captaintreacherous over a Bettors Delight mare including the 2025 Bathurst Gold Crown winner Message Bank.
