On Wednesday afternoon at Stawell the opening race on the programme was taken out by the Father Patrick 3yo gelding Vulcan Stride which thrashed a field of maiden trotters to win by an official margin of 44 metres from Lady Suspicious and Aldebaran Buddy.
Driven by his trainer Mark Hayes, Vulcan Stride rated a handy 2:01.9 over the 1785 metres and covered the last half-mile in 60 seconds.
Lot 241 in next month’s Nutrien Melbourne Yearling Sale is a half-sister to Vulcan Stride and is being offered for sale by E & M Stride.
Liberty Stride, the dam of Lot 241 won four races as a 3yo including the Group One Australasian Breeders Crown and Vulcan Stride is her first foal.
Lot 241 is Liberty Stride’s second foal and this filly is a daughter of Majestic Son which has been Australia’s Leading Sire of Trotters for the past nine seasons.
A daughter of Muscle Hill, Liberty Stride is a daughter of the multiple Group One winning mare Jasmyns Gift which won 17 races and $192,436 and is the dam of five winners.
Jasmyns Gift is a full-sister to the Group Three New Zealand 4yo & 5yo Championship winner Phil’s Gift which won 12 races and $106,581.
