Art Major mare Amelia Rose has joined an elite group of producing mares after her first foal, Amelia’s Jewel, made a winning debut at Melton on Friday night.

Driven by Allan McDonough for trainer Emma Stewart, Amelia’s Jewel rated 2:01.7 over 2240 metres. After working forward to take the lead, she finished strongly, sprinting home in 57.1 seconds for the final half.

Amelia Rose, also trained by Emma Stewart, enjoyed a successful racing career, recording nine wins and earnings of $143,010. She was placed three times at Group 1 level before being retired to stud.

Purchased by Benstud Standardbreds in 2022 following the birth of Amelia’s Jewel, Amelia Rose has already made an immediate impact as a broodmare.

A half-brother to Amelia’s Jewel will be offered as Lot 256 at next month’s Nutrien Melbourne Yearling Sale.

Lot 256 is by Pebble Beach, the 2022 USTA 3YO Colt Pacer of the Year, whose first crop of yearlings will be presented at the 2026 sales series.

The colt boasts a strong maternal pedigree. His granddam, Bennies Daughter, is the dam of four winners and a half-sister to Majordan, the Len Smith Mile winner who recorded a sub-1:50 time.

Majordan was a standout performer, winning five races in sub-1:50 times in Australia before being exported to North America. There, he further improved his record to 1:47.6, highlighted by victory in a $123,000 consolation of the William Haughton Memorial at The Meadowlands.

He is one of four $100,000 earners produced by Benelise, alongside Bathurst Gold Crown winner Soho Valencia and Vicbred Super Series 2YO winner Niki No No. Benelise also produced another Bathurst Gold Crown winner in Yrubla.

Remarkably, Benelise has produced four individual Group 1 winners — a rare achievement for any broodmare.

Lot 256 is being prepared for sale by Benstud Standardbreds Victoria. For inspection enquiries, contact 0429 950 055.
