The 4yo Sweet Lou mare Bella Louise made her race-track debut in the best possible fashion at Cranbourne on Sunday night.

Driven confidently by ace Victorian reinsman James Herbertson for trainer Jayne Davies, Bella Louise started a $1.35 favourite raced home seven metres clear of runner-up Hurricane Hooly running the last 800 metres in 58.5 seconds.

Bella Louise’s win gave her dam Bellasario her fourth winner from her first four foals. Her fifth foal is a current 2yo and her sixth is Lot 349 in the Nutrien Melbourne Yearling Sale on April 13.

Consigned by Ian Douglas, Lot 349 is a filly now named Delta Springfield and she is a daughter of first season sire Ride High who sired his first winner when the filly Im On No Sleep won at Mildura on March 7.

Bellasario had a big month in March when each of the three foals she had race during the month all won.

Captain Bellasario has won his last two starts in city staked races at Melton while Rio Rock won at Mildura in addition to Sunday’s win by Bella Louise.

Captain Bellasario, winner of the Group One Vicbred Super Series as a 4yo, has now won 11 races and $179,920 while Rio Rock has 13 wins and $89,160 to his credit.

A Bettors Delight mare, Bellasario won 12 races herself and she is a half-sister to former standout mare Nolarama which was voted Australia’s 4yo and older Mare of the Year in 2003.

A half-sister to Nolarama in Maastrict is the dam of the 3yo Captain Crunch filly Its Maa Time which has now won five races and $86,002 following her victory in the $100,000 WA Sales Classic on February 28.

Ian Douglas is preparing Lot 349 for the Melbourne Sale and he can be contacted on 0417 509 633 to arranged inspection.
