Just a day after Hawthorn AFL announced their first-ever co-captains, the aptly named Co Captain delivered a winning performance of his own.
The 3yo Captaintreacherous gelding broke his maiden at Melton at just his third race start, scoring impressively for trainer-driver Chris Svanosio. Co Captain rated 1:55.7 over the 1720m, comfortably accounting for Tryx Vixen and Pet Wolf.
After finishing second at his only two prior starts, Co Captain was sent out a raging favourite at $1.50 — and he didn’t disappoint.
Victorian breeder Renee Keaveny will offer a half-brother to Co Captain as Lot 303 at the Nutrien Melbourne Yearling Sale.
By Poster Boy, the colt is now a half-brother to four winners, including the outstanding mare Shez Got Bling (23 wins, $160,255 in stakes).
