While all the focus at Friday’s Cambridge meeting in New Zealand was on the Aussie duo of Leap To Fame and Arcee Phoenix in the two rich slot races the 2yo race earlier in the night was won by a Nutrien Sales graduate in Andretti.
The win was particularly welcomed by Benstud Standardbreds who will offer a half-brother to Andretti as Lot 239 in next weekends Nutrien Melbourne Yearling Sale.
Trained by Mark and Nathan Purdon for Australian owner Jean Feiss, Andretti made his debut a fortnight earlier with a second placing in a heat of the Young Guns Series.
Andretti was a $220,000 purchase at the 2024 Melbourne Sale and he rated 1:55.7 over the 1700 metres on Friday night to show he has a bright future.
Lot 239 is now from a winner producer in Ah La Vitesse which is a half-sister to the New Zealand 2yo Colt Pacer of the Year One Change which won 19 races and $706,613.
The dam of One Change is a half-sister to superstar pacer Changeover which numbered a New Zealand Cup among his 29 wins and $2,426,765 in stakes.
Time is running short so if you want to inspect Lot 239 prior to next Sunday’s sale contact Benstud Victoria on 0429 950 055.
